Light in the darkness

Premier: 24.1.2024

Audience: Adults, 15+

Length:  75 m

The main impulse of Light in the Darkness was the idea of creating a demanding compositional unit that would reflect the richness of mime theater in all its diverse forms. This is an extraordinary, theatrically expressive processing of highly artistic images of death, love and hell, led by technically precise bodily expression, using, in addition to the techniques of contemporary mime and dance, also objects, puppets and masks. The creators were inspired by Dante's Inferno, excerpts from the Marquis de Sade, as well as the spiritual overtones of Bach's Art of Fugue.

The poetics of the entire work ranges from surrealism and decadence through elements of Rococo and Mannerism to scenes reminiscent of the first paintings of Salvador Dalí, Giorgio De Chirac or the films of Jan Švankmajer, Ingmar Bergman or Peter Greenaway.

This is a unique effort by two renowned creators, choreographers, directors and performers, Miřenka Čechová and Radim Vizváry, who are returning to the common stage after a ten-year hiatus.
