Is a movement-visual confession about the aging of the human body, fragility, beauty, and the experience of the meaningfulness of one’s existence.
How many doors do we open in a lifetime, how many thresholds do we cross, how many chairs do we sit in before we find a sense of safety and peace?
How many eyes will we look into in a lifetime, how many words will pass through our mouths, how many bodies will we touch before we satisfy our longing for closeness and intimacy?
What then happens to a person upon suddenly losing all that and finding himself or herself alone in an unfamiliar environment?
The human body is the chronicle of our existence. From the first breath, it stores our memories, binding together people, places, situations, and emotions. Although we do not consciously “remember” many of them, they are stored in the body forever. As we grow older and the body becomes more fragile, their actual quality and intensity changes, and the emotional sediment of past events and reactions to them gains strength as we age. The weakness of the body leads to economy of movement and daily monotony, yet the strength of memories, or on the contrary their eternal loss, makes room for unexpected combinations of imagination and reality, movement and words, sounds and silence, needs and dreams.
Created through of a long-term authorial project under the direction of Kateřina Šobáňová (member of the Theatre Continuo ensemble since 2008) and based on the research of movement, physicality, and expressiveness of the aging human body, CARRIERS Ltd. is a solo performance directed by Kateřina Šobáňová and performed by Swiss actor Stefan Bütschi.
